The most common cause is that <strong>SMTP authentication is turned off<\/strong> in your mail program. Fix: enable \u201cMy outgoing server requires authentication\u201d and set the outgoing server to <strong>smaug.aso.com.tr \u00b7 port 465 \u00b7 SSL\/TLS<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<p>With this error you can usually still send to addresses on the same server (e.g. your own company), but not to external addresses such as Gmail or Outlook.com. It appears in your mail program or in a bounce message like this:<\/p>\n<p><code>Server error: '554 5.7.1 &lt;recipient@example.com&gt;: Relay access denied'<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aso.com.tr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/554-5-7-1-relay-access-denied-fix.jpg\" alt=\"Cause and fix of the 554 5.7.1 Relay access denied error\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" style=\"max-width:100%;height:auto\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>What does \u201crelay access denied\u201d mean?<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cRelaying\u201d is when a mail server passes a message on to a server of another domain. Servers do not allow unauthenticated users to send mail to the outside through them (an open relay), otherwise they would be abused for spam. On the Advanced tab set the outgoing port to 465 and encryption to SSL\/TLS.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Outlook \/ Windows Mail:<\/strong> when adding the account, enter the SMTP username and password in advanced setup, with port 465 and SSL\/TLS. Remove and re-add the account if needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thunderbird:<\/strong> Account Settings &gt; Outgoing Server (SMTP) &gt; select the server &gt; Edit &gt; Connection security: SSL\/TLS, Port: 465, Authentication method: Normal password, User name: your e-mail address.<\/li>\n<li><strong>iPhone:<\/strong> Settings &gt; Mail &gt; Accounts &gt; your account &gt; Account &gt; SMTP &gt; primary server: username and password filled in, SSL on, port 465.
