In short:<\/strong> The \u201ckarekod\u201d used on medicines in Turkey is a two-dimensional GS1 Data Matrix<\/strong> code containing the product number (GTIN), a unique serial number, expiry date and batch number. Under Turkey’s Pharmaceutical Track and Trace System (\u0130TS), it has been mandatory on medicinal products since 1 January 2010<\/strong>. Pharmacies, wholesalers and medical companies can print Datamatrix labels with Barcode Label Pro<\/strong>.<\/div>\n

What is the Turkish \u201ckarekod\u201d?<\/h2>\n

\u201cKarekod\u201d is the Turkish name for the Data Matrix<\/strong> barcode used on medicine packs. It is a square or rectangular 2D barcode that stores a lot of data in a small area and can still be read when partly damaged thanks to error correction, which is why it was chosen for unit-level tracking of medicines in \u0130TS. (In everyday Turkish, QR codes are sometimes also called karekod, but medicines use Data Matrix.)<\/p>\n

With this data every pack can be tracked from production to the patient. \u0130TS is operated by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (T\u0130TCK)<\/a>; medical devices and cosmetics are tracked in the Product Tracking System (\u00dcTS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Creating a single Datamatrix code in Barcode Label Pro<\/h2>\n

  1. Install and run Barcode Label Pro.<\/li>\n
  2. Choose the DATAMATRIX<\/strong> tool in the toolbox on the left (its name appears on hover).<\/li>\n
  3. Click on the label and double-click the barcode that appears.<\/li>\n
  4. In the Source<\/strong> section choose Screen<\/strong>, type the data to encode and click OK.<\/li>\n
  5. Preview and print. You can test the code on screen with a phone camera or a 2D scanner before printing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Printing Datamatrix codes in bulk from Excel or a database<\/h2>\n

    1. Click Settings > Data connection<\/strong>, choose the file type (e.g. Excel) and click Next.<\/li>\n
    2. Browse to your table and click OK once it is displayed.<\/li>\n
    3. Add a Datamatrix code with the DATAMATRIX tool and double-click it.<\/li>\n
    4. In Source<\/strong> choose Database<\/strong> and select the field to encode.<\/li>\n
    5. To put several fields into one code, open the formula builder in Script<\/strong> and join them with &<\/code>: DATA.FIELD1 & DATA.FIELD2<\/code>.<\/li>\n
    6. Check in preview and print one label per row.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
