Or do you get an error after receiving only part of your mail? One of the problems of <strong>Outlook Express<\/strong> on Windows XP is its database limit.<\/p>\n<p>If you see an error such as <strong>\u201cAn unknown error has occurred\u2026\u201d<\/strong> while receiving mail and your Inbox holds many messages, your mail database may have exceeded the <strong>2 GB<\/strong> limit. Each Outlook Express folder is stored as a .dbx file, and these files cannot grow beyond 2 GB. With heavy mail traffic the Inbox or Sent Items database reaches this limit and errors start.<\/p>\n<h2>How to recognise it<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The send\/receive bar shows mail being received but stops after a while.<\/li>\n<li>Messages you send do not move from the Outbox to Sent Items and are sent to the recipient repeatedly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Solution<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Outlook Express.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <strong>Local Folders<\/strong> and create two new folders, e.g. <strong>Inbox old<\/strong> and <strong>Sent old<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Move all messages from the <strong>Inbox<\/strong> to <strong>Inbox old<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Move all messages from <strong>Sent Items<\/strong> to <strong>Sent old<\/strong> and wait until moving is complete.<\/li>\n<li>Now remove the old Inbox and Sent Items databases: go to <strong>Tools &gt; Options &gt; Maintenance &gt; Store Folder<\/strong>, copy the folder path shown there and close Outlook Express.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Start &gt; Run<\/strong>, paste the path and press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>In the window that opens you will see <strong>Inbox.dbx<\/strong> and <strong>Sent Items.dbx<\/strong>.
