In short: Optical products such as frames, sunglasses and lenses are medical devices and are tracked individually in Turkey’s Product Tracking System (ÜTS). Why do optical products need Data Matrix codes?

Optical products used to be registered in the Social Security Institution’s National Database (UBB) and later in TİTUBB. In 2017 TİTUBB was closed and replaced by the Product Tracking System (ÜTS). ÜTS tracks optical products individually from the manufacturer to the optician and the patient, so each product needs a code carrying its product number and serial/lot data.

Creating a single Datamatrix code in Barcode Label Pro

  1. Install and run Barcode Label Pro.
  2. Choose the DATAMATRIX tool in the toolbox on the left (its name appears on hover).
  3. Click on the label and double-click the barcode that appears.
  4. In the Source section choose Screen, type the data to encode and click OK.
  5. Preview and print. You can test the code on screen with a phone camera or a 2D scanner before printing.

Printing Datamatrix codes in bulk from Excel or a database

  1. Click Settings > Data connection, choose the file type (e.g. Excel) and click Next.
  2. Browse to your table and click OK once it is displayed.
  3. Add a Datamatrix code with the DATAMATRIX tool and double-click it.
  4. In Source choose Database and select the field to encode.
  5. To put several fields into one code, open the formula builder in Script and join them with &: DATA.FIELD1 & DATA.FIELD2.
  6. Check in preview and print one label per row.
